Ink Stained Heart
By Fatimah Binte Bilal,
A binding of leather
Worn
Twine-like
Ribbon pushed through
A slew of yellowed pages
And faded gold
Stretched over
Adorning in deafening silence
Just a book
And why run your life
By a book?
But God spoke
Through every printed
Ancient Arabic
Word
Pulsated through
Each dotted letter
Penetrated the drum
God’s majestic tones
Just a book
Remove the just
A book
Remove and add
The book
Of God
Is wrapped adoringly
In stitched white
Soft, tasselled, tightly
Wrapped and held
Heart-height
Placed higher
Than head-height
The word of God
Presides
Over mankind
