A Sunset Sensation

By Tania Dawood

The Maghreb sky paints the city a beautiful blue

The last drop of sun takes its golden ray as it sets

Drinking the light off a final inch of my skin

I’m thankful for the brightness within

I sit with my hands together

Pinkies stitched side by side

As the dark reminds me of what it is

Teal shadows render me obsolete

I beg for a lamp to remain on the road

That only gets rockier as it goes

I open my eyes to a black velvet window

I feel fine under a starless sky

Remember I told you

My light sits inside
