The Fashioner of Things
By Susan al Hafar
Frost splattered
pavements, ice thrown
and scattered,
shimmering under sunlight,
like a thousand
sparkling diamonds,
sprinkled jewels grinding
on the ground,
underneath my feet.
Snowflakes floating down,
like fluffy lumps
of wool,
but perfectly symmetrical,
each one individual,
showing signs of Al-Musawwir,
(the fashioner of things).
Snow falls
outside my window
where inside,
I am warm.
Fog thick and hazy
grounding planes and
causing chaos,
a haunting ghostly
smoky backdrop
for romantic classic novel writers,
inspiring spoken words and prose
from mouths of poets,
movements caught
where time ticks slower,
the hurried hanging longer,
to linger with hot breaths
in icy stagnant air,
to feel the beauty
of the winter
deep in their hearts,
to know and to strengthen,
their connection with Allah.
