The Sajda Supplications
By Rose Deighton
Oh Lord
Put me some place where I can sit,
and think of you alone.
And let me not my circumstance,
begrudge and bemoan.
Teach me to remember you,
wherever I might be.
In all the forms let me see you,
as divine theophany.
Oh Lord,
Take from me this veil of selfhood,
the illusion of time and place.
Let me find in all the world,
the image of your face.
Let not the culture of the times,
the passing trends in thought,
overcome the yearning of my soul,
to realize you, my God.
Everywhere I turn are snares,
waiting for me to fall.
But your light shines everywhere,
your voice chanting the call.
Let me not confuse,
my Lord,
your voice for created ones
Guide me back to you,
my Lord,
That I may see beyond the Sun.
