Through Eyes
By Susan Al Hafar
A swirling sea of mountainous clouds,
forever undulating into the distance,
they stopped to frame a jagged sphere
of piercing light,
And the sun has set the sky on fire,
burning the edges and
bleeding colour around,
intense blurring of my eyes.
We used to lie on our backs and watch,
until we’d see strange creatures in ornate carriages
and mysterious changing faces.
We’d imagine our lives away
in those lucid moments.
The future was ahead like a
ripe red berry waiting to be picked.
Dreams changed and faded
with the long white clouds.
And the skies changed many times,
but never lost their fascination.
Now I see them fresh,
through eyes of understanding,
And I see the signs of Al-Khaliq,
The knowing creator,
And it is an affirmation
of belief,
A reverence
where my heart
finds serenity at last.
